Murch QCQ

"As with all digital non-linear editing, its greatest strength is also its greatest weakness... It gives you what you say you want, but that may not be what you need. This is what is exciting about doing hand animation because it restricts you to techniques that you are familiar with, just like editing film and optical printing mixed.would digital animation have a similar weakness to animation?

"I think every age has a medium that talks to it more eloquently than the others. In the 19th century it was symphonic music and the novel. For various technical and artistic reasons, film became that eloquent medium for the 20th century.
"Interesting idea about the progress of media. What would the 21st century's medium be, YouTube?

"Your job is partly to anticipate, partly to control the thought processes of the audience. To give them what they want and/or what they need just before they have to 'ask' for it -- to be surprising yet self-evident at the same time. If you are too far behind or ahead of them, you cause problems, but if you are right with them, leading them ever so slightly, the flow of events feels natural and exciting at the same time"Seems vital to setting up punch lines for jokes and filling the time in between so that its not boring and keeps a good pace. How diverse of an audience should we expect to anticipate?

Improv between Seth Rogen and Justin Long

I would like to use a similar technique as this. However, i'm not entirely sure that doing it with just audio will be enough information. Although i do think its a good place to start to get a feel for the comedy style that comes out through the dialogue

Boondocks

Bresson quotes

"Cinema seeks immediate and definitive expression through mimicry, gestures, intonations of voice. This system inevitably excludes expression through contacts of images and of sounds and the transformations that result them." pg 22
Being able to use both this systems simultaneously will be able multiple the effect of a joke, similar to how the addition of sound multiplies booth the image and sound. Humor made using contacts of image and sound result in a higher level, funnier joke.
"All those effects you can get from the repetition (of an image, of a sound)." pg. 29
I want to see how much humor i can create through repetition. similar to how archer consistently reuses jokes such as, "can't or won't" and "phrasing, boom".

porterfield article/ putty hill

"It was just a treatment, a 5-page scenario. The locations were detailed in the script, we knew which characters would appear, and we had this fictional construct that bound everything together, which was the death of this young man from an overdose. Beyond that, there were no lines that were recorded or memorized; it was all collaborative work with the actors that was done on location."

Its impressive how something as simple as a treatment can work well enough to inform the actors with enough information that an entire production could be happen from just a treatment. Porterfield must have great communication skills to work with his actors on the set, considering how emotional and intimate many of the scenes in Putty Hill are.

I wonder how shooting went. If the actors rehearsed before hand then shot a single time, or if they filmed multiple takes until they had the shot they wanted.

Ghostbusters Inspiration

The villain that the gang is going to capture, is a ghost made of jizz. Just like the slime ghost that is in the sedgewick hotel in Ghostbusters.

Sound Effects

The original sound effects of scooby doo are great because they are exaggerated and some what random in use.

The gang's van

Using the image from the box of Candy Land, the mystery machine is going to be merged with a similar style of Krieger's vans from Archer

Color Palette

As far the colors of the scooby doo cartoons, the original is by far my favorite since the dull retro theme. It is also the one i want to stay the closest too as far as the characters are concerned. For the back grounds however i want them to be as brightly colored and vibrant as candy land.

coloring book pages

Many different coloring book pages for scooby doo and the gang can be found on google images. Since i am considering using multiple types of animation. Rotoscoping some of the coloring book pages would be useful to speed up how quickly i could hand draw characters. Also this would allow me to alter some of the physical characteristics of each character so that they better match the new persona that i am attaching to each member. I will at least be doing all close ups with dialogue with hand drawn faces that have interchangeable mouths. Stop motion, may be limited to Frank (Fred), and times that he is carrying the momentum of the gangs.

Figures for stop motion

I have decided i want to use action figures that are between 3 and 4 inches. I am also considering repainting the figures to make the characters look like they are hopped up on drugs. As well as just changing the color of their wardrobes. Mouths will be added in post for dialogue. I will be using these pre-made mouths.
